In other words, the money you pay in advance to the tour operator or travel agent will be in safe hands.

This is good to know, because travel agencies sometimes go bankrupt before travellers can depart. Previously, they would have been left empty-handed in this situation. And even if travellers have already arrived at their destination, a tour operator's bankruptcy can have unpleasant consequences.

However, the Travel Guarantee Fund has come up with the solution: travel agents and tour operators can take out insurance with our fund for your protection.

If (and only if) they become financially insolvent, you will be entitled to

• cancellation compensation: we will reimburse the money you have paid; OR
• assistance during the trip: we will ensure that you are able to continue your trip without any problems, or arrange for you to return home if necessary.
